Maximizing the value of electronics by performing deep refurbishing and repair operations for Apple MacBooks and iMacs

The project is scaling an Apple computer refurbishment facility to create a large social, environmental, and circular impact. The project is avoiding more than 50,000 tonnes of CO2 within five years by replacing newly produced devices. It is refurbishing more than 70,000 devices every year, with less than 3% recycling rate. This results in over 39,000 tonnes of raw materials not extracted from the ground. Why support IT refurbishment?IT activity represents 6% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and growing at a fast pace: 20% estimated by 2050.Electronic device production represents 80% of these emissions, and refurbishment reduces the impact by 75-90% for the same usage. But refurbished devices are less than 5% of the market vs. new devices, because of the lack of competitivity. The goal of the project is to maximize the value of the products by performing deep refurbishing and repair operations for Apple MacBooks and iMacs. This project has also a strong social impact, creating new jobs for mostly unemployed people, with a very strong focus on training and continuous up-skilling. The project needs additional funding to:Multiply by 4x within five years the capacity of the existing siteImprove process carbon efficiency by developing new technical tools, reducing replacement rates and recyclingCarbon avoidance and co-benefits indicators are verified every year by an independent accredited auditor ISO 14065 (Verifavia for 2022).
